The first Wisconsin Local Food Summit was held in Stevens Point in early January, 2007. Producers, consumers and advocates of local food joined together to network and discuss their visions for the local food movement in Wisconsin. Brian Halweil was the keynote speaker. Secretary of Agriculture Rod Nilsestuen and State Senator Julie Lassa unveiled the Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin legislative proposal.
The second Wisconsin Local Food Summit was held in Eau Claire in late January, 2008. This summit was held in conjunction with the Midwest Value Added Agriculture Conference. John Ikerd was the keynote speaker. Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin has become a reality. Sessions were held to look at distribution systems, hunger and food security, food councils, etc.
The third Annual Wisconsin Local Food Summit took place January 8th and 9th, 2009 at the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids. Kate Clancy,
one of the nation's leading authorities on food systems, with expertise in sustainable agriculture, food policy, food systems planning, organic food, and related topics made the keynote address on January 8th.The fourth Annual Wisconsin Local Food Summit is coming up on January 21st and 22nd 2010 at the Ramada Convention Center in Eau Claire, WI.
